Shay

Shay

My sweet girl was with me for 13 months, always taking her meds like a champ, riding in the car, going for 2 walks a day and best of all sleeping in the club chair with her feet up. Shay was a girl who never played with toys but she played with your heart! May she play in dog heaven always. Shay Lyons 2008-2013.

Scarlett

Scarlett

Came to LDAR with just 6 months to live, but our senior Bluetick Coonhound suprised everyone. After more than 2 years with us, our sweet wonderful big gal passed away in her sleep. We will love her and remember the kindness that all of her sponsors and her foster family showed knowing we had her only for borrowed time.

-The Lucky Dog Family

Coolidge

Coolidge

Our loving, energetic Retriever Mix was lost in a tragic accident that was hard on the whole LDAR family. But in our loss we remember that he did not die in a cold shelter, abandonded and alone. Coolidge had the opportunity to feel love and live in a foster home which so many shelter dogs never have the luck to experience.

Gopi

Gopi gave me hope in the darkest hours of my life as I was going through medical treatment at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. To me he was my best friend and my reason for living. He brought so much joy to me and family that we will be thankful for a lifetime. Mera bacha (my baby) mommy misses you so much. Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Harlee

Harlee was the most amazing dog. She was more human than canine. She always had a hug and kiss for me when I was feeling down. We will always miss her, always. I know you're in heaven now; we will be together again someday. We love and miss you Harlee.

Ellie

Although Ellie wasn’t officially my dog, I loved her just as much! She brought joy to me every time I saw her, sharing endless dog kisses and tail wags:-) No one could ask for a better dog than Ellie, and she will be missed furever by her soulmate (whom she picked as a fellow rescue mutt) Charlie.

-Shannon Foreman

Sophie

Sophie had the softest ears in all of “doggydom." Sophie loved life, took everything in stride and never gave up. She loved to cuddle and give kisses; to know her was to love her. Sophie was Mary Kay’s friend, partner, defender, and life saver. She will truly be missed.

Leonard

Leonard left us too early after a valiant fight with pneumonia.

-The Lucky Dog Family

River

River was the first rescue in the Horowitz family and paved the way for Mirah to get involved in rescue and eventually to start Lucky Dog.  River loved chasing drones flown over head and would race her people along the pool as they swam laps.  She was a tremendous ambassador for rescue dogs everywhere.

- The Horowitz Family

Alli Gator

Alli Gator fostered more than 70 dogs in her 10 years, teaching so many Lucky Dogs how to be happy, confident pups and helping them find their own forever families. She was loving, loyal, independent and sassy, and she will always be my baby girl.

-The Lucky Dog Family

Lily

Beloved fur baby of my dear friend Rachel. Lily was an incredible companion and fashionista. She was beloved and will be so missed.

Ari

Ari is the closest thing my best friend will ever have to a soulmate and a child. In addition to traveling frequestly together, they also lived in nearly 12 locations, spanning several states. While he's crossed the rainbow bridge, Ari continues to leave paw-print whever he goes, and anywhere they've been.

Rabon

Rabon (known as Bubbah to his foster parents) was sweet, playful, and always put up with his sister’s extra energy. He loved cuddling on the couch acurling up on the carpet. In his short life, Rabon captured the hearts of his foster moms (who were VERY tempted to adopt him but had a new puppy of their own!). He will be missed.

Watson

"Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really." -- Agnes Sligh Turnbull. Rest easy sweet, sweet Watson.
-- Annie Herhold and family

Pepper

"Pepper was the sweetest, most caring dog I've ever encountered. She had an innate sense for when someone was sad or hurting -- whether they had 2 or 4 legs -- and she would rush in to provide comfort. She was a Lucky Dog before Lucky Dog existed. I miss her every day." -- Mirah Horowitz

Cochi

"Cochi was a very Lucky Dog. A Peace Corps volunteer, Rose, rescued her from life on the streets of Santa Maria Visitacion, in rural Guatemala. When Rose's mother Toni came to visit, she was immediately taken with Cochi. She had lost her own dog a few months ago. So when Rose had to move to a new job in a new town where Cochi could no longer roam free and had to be left alone for long periods of time, Toni offered to take her.She arranged for Cochi to come to the United States and live with her in Washington DC. Toni and Cochi became very close. For eight years, they spent every day, all day together. Cochi got to live half-time in the city and half-time in the country, frolicking in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. She had a very happy life in Toni's loving care." -- Friends of Cochi

Walker

"While we all love each other, it's clear that Walker was the best roommate in the house. We're heartbroken and miss that corner-chair-loving nut dearly. We know nothing can replace him, but we're hoping this adds even more meaning to his memory and helps a future Walkies get the same kind of chance Hirsh devoted to the king of 16th St." -- Avi, Sarah, and Yair

Franklin

"Franklin was the perfect family dog: gentle, friendly, loving, adorable, and always happy. The love his parents (and the two kids he helped to welcome into the family) felt for him was deep, and it seemed he’d be a part of the family forever. His unexpected passing was a shock to all and came far too quickly. We all miss him dearly already." -The “Shoe Moms” on behalf of the Friedland Family

Clover

Clover Olariu was beloved by family and friends for his sweet disposition, howling abilities, and how happy he made his human momma, Laura. Clover was so loved and will be missed until we all meet again over the rainbow bridge.

Whales, Westminster, and Winslow

Left us too soon. The cutest faces that we have ever seen. They brought a spark into our lives in the short time they were with us. They will not be forgotten.
- The Sober Family

Eleanor Roosevelt

When I adopted her on Sept. 1, 2011, she was named "Nishka." She was my constant shadow for almost 9 years. From my time in DC, to my move back to California, and our life in Los Angeles, she was always up for anything, as long as it was with me. She loved nothing more than to nap on my lap, but she also went wild at the beach - running and jumping over puddles. She had a million nicknames, but when it comes down to it the best description is that she was my best friend.

Dooley

Dooley of House Fredericks, the First of her Name, Queen of the Family, Protector of Stella, Mentor of Chubb, and Breaker of Hearts, has moved to her watchpost in the sky. Her playful spirit and gentleness will be greatly missed by her family and friends who will furever hold a place in their heart for her.

Molly

Molly had the good fortune to end up with our friend Meg a few years ago. She was blind, hard of hearing and would rely on snaps to guide her along. She had a soft heart, was sweet and loved a good car ride , walk or visit with friends. Meg celebrated every day of life with her. She was a real lucky dog.

Riley

To our sweet Riley,

You brought us so many years of joy, we were so lucky to find such a special dog. You had a big heart and a gentle spirit, wherever you went you made people feel happy. We loved you so deeply, you will always be in our hearts and in our memories. Thank you for sharing your life with us!

Love, Jeff and Julie

Sparky

Sparky was a once in a lifetime, life-changing dog. He was the catalyst for the founding of Lucky Dog and a foster sibling to hundreds of dogs and puppies. He never met a tennis ball he couldn't retrieve -- or find in the nooks and crannies of the yard or house. He taught hundreds of people the power of animal rescue -- and, because of him, thousands and thousands of animals have been rescued and placed in loving families. His legacy continues every day. -- Mirah Horowitz

Oliver

Oliver came into the family as a puppy and was a comforting companion to his family and furry sibling, Chloe, through the good times and the difficult ones. He took his duty as protector of the family very seriously and let you know it. He will be missed by so many.

Jake

We rescued Jake (formerly Mr. Ed) from Lucky Dog 10 years ago. We fell in love with him on site, and he fell in love with us. He was a big beautiful kind, patient and loving part of our family. I know that rescues are grateful, Jake truly was. He showed us so much love everyday, so much love. WE were the lucky ones to have him. Jake taught us so much through his DM diagnosis last May. He was strong, happy, never complained, just wanted to be with us. We will miss and honor him forever. Thank you Lucky Dog rescue from the bottom of my (broken) heart for bringing Jake to us. We are extremely broken right now, and forever grateful. -- Monika Clark

Jasmine

In honor of Jasmine, who found a family to match her fiery spirit and shared 13 years of adventures, stories, and love. Her belated warning barks and judgmental stares will be missed by all of us who were guests in her house. We’re so happy she rejected her first three families to end up in her true forever home surrounded by people and another pup who couldn’t have loved her more.

-- Anna, Leila, Sara, Cindy, Brian, & Rachel

Mali

In loving memory of a very good girl! Mali was the sweetest girl who loved her backyard zoomies and bagels. She will be so, so missed. -- The Fab Five

Chet

Chet was the joy of our lives for 11 years.  Loved by all who met him, but most especially by our whole family.  He was smart, patient, and fun loving.  We will never forget you buddy!

The Doell Family

Wrigley

Wrigley adopted us as much as we adopted him. Born in a shelter, adopted at 8 weeks, returned, and foster houses was the first 6 months of his life Structure and love and he was the best boy a family could have. Even after being diagnosed with cancer and told to make plans - we had 15 more months together. He was a lucky dog and we were the lucky family to have him in our family. 2009-2021 -- Ian Dubin

Spuds

Spuds was brought into my life three years ago by Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. He was the best dog anyone could ask for. He had the most beautiful smile, cutest ears, and funniest personality. He didn't get along with other dogs but he blessed all the humans he met with his loving energy. He was a good boy, loyal and sweet until the end. He was my lucky dog and I'm very lucky to have had him in my life. I am very heartbroken by his passing and I will never forget him. I will miss you and love you forever, my Spuds Einstein. -- Lara Hudak

Charlie

Charlie found us at a Lucky Dog adoption event when she reached out and nuzzled my hand as we walked by. We had had a smaller dog in mind for adoption, but there was no question from that first moment that she was coming home with us. Over the last 6 years, she has brought so much joy to our lives and everyone who knew her. She is gone too soon and we hope that she understood at the end that we were the lucky ones to have had her in our lives. -- Rita and Gary Stinnett

Doozer

In memory of Doozer who brought so much love and joy to our family. Doozer was a constant for many life events including our marriage, purchase of our first home, and birth of our two children. He was kind, gentle, and full of good intentions and love. Doozer was a lucky dog and we were lucky to have him. Love, The Heller Family

Malcolm

In loving memory of Malcolm. He was the best bunkie ever, and an oversized presence in our pack, which he led with confidence and dignity.

Rocky

Thank you Rocky for letting me be a part of your life. I will forever miss you. I hope you felt as loved as I felt loved by you. Till we meet again.

Georgia

Our sweet Georgia crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday. She spent almost 9 wonderful years with us after being adopted from Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in 2013. We loved her dearly. She was so loyal and sweet. Words will never be able to describe how much I will miss my baby. Thank you so much for saving her from a shelter so that I could love on her for so long. Rest In Peace Georgia. -- Tana Dippolito Heer

Shiloh

In memory of Shiloh, a much loved member of the Lessel Family. He loved people of all ages especially the little ones in his charge and his best bud, Jono. He was a playful guy who always loved a good romp in a creek. Thanks for taking such good care of your family! -- Samantha

Chance

Chance was adopted by the Dunker family: Jennifer, Matt, and children Nate and Madeline Dunker on February 21, 2010. He was the perfect companion for Nate and Maddie as they grew up. Chance was big – over 100 lbs., but played so gently with his housemate, GiGi, an 8lb. Chiweenie. He was much loved and wonderfully cared for. He passed away on March 26, 2022.

Caesar

Maggie

In loving memory of our dear, departed 16 year old Collie, Maggie, on June 3, 2022. She was the sweetest little girl and I loved her so much. Can't wait to see her and hug her again.
-- Robert H. Mace

Sammie

Sammie was adopted from a local rescue in Washington, DC and had a wonderful, fulfilling life with our friends Mike and Jess. She was the best girl, she was so beautiful with her soulful eyes, and she will be missed.

Hobo

Hobo came into my life a wiggly 5-month old puppy mill survivor and never saw a day that didn't bring him a reason to wag. From the start, he jumped over baby gates "meant for other dogs," lept on the pool table to "retrieve Amazon boxes needing to be opened, and slid under fencing only to come right back -- just to prove he could. He looked at the world to see how he could spread his love and zest for life, helped foster hundreds of animals, and was the best friend and rock to a young boy who needed him more than words can say. Your extended family will miss you forever, Hobo. -- Mirah Horowitz

Kayla

"She was a prancer, a dancer, and a lover of men. She had a shiny black coat softer than mink. She had a large head, big eyes, an underbite, and paws that looked like they belonged to a much larger dog. I looked forward to coming home to her wagging tail and gregarious smile. She was the neighborhood dog who brought a grin to everyone's face that she met. She was a ravenous eater who would gobble down anything from romaine lettuce to a bananna. Kayla was there for me through many happy, sad, and ucnertain situations. I couldn't have asked for a better companion. I wish I had her for longer, but I am thankful for the 11 plus years we had together." -- Tracy Klein

Harry

After seven years, we had to say goodbye to Harry. Taking care of him was one of the greatest gifts of our lives; he needed a lot of help but demanded so little. Harry: We hope you are now happy and free, enjoying the beaches of Puerto Rico and the sunshine. Life won’t be the same without you, Pupawup, but was so much better because of you. Xo

Baxter

"The best Lucky Dog foster fail, this pup with special needs was deeply loved by his family and lived a long and happy life. He will be remembered for his resillience, overcoming a lifetime of blindness, a hard fought battle with cancer, and tolerating the shenanigans of his younger brother and sister. Rest in peace sweet Baxter." -Dana Samuels

Poptart

"I adopted my sweet weird perfect Poptart from Lucky Dog 9 years ago. She loved sitting like a human, lots of scratches, and the dog park. I will forever be grateful for getting to spend her life with her." - Sandi Benton

Fred

"Fred was rescued from Lucky Dog on April 10, 2010 and laid to rest on April 10, 2023. His 13 years with Mike and Claudia were spent snoring and slobbering and sniffing and bringing smiles to everyone’s face who met him. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family across the country. Rest peacefully, sweet Freddles."

Callie

"Callie was my best friend. We did everything together. She was the first thing I smiled at every morning for her 15 min morning belly rub. She embraced traveling, the great outdoors, and adventure by my side for 9.5 years. I cannot thank Lucky Dog enough for bringing her into my life." - Sam Mader

Cohiba

"Cohiba was a loyal friend and companion and will be missed by many."

Ello

"Ello was such a special part of the Rodriguez family. She was a true foodie and sweetheart through and through!"

Enzo

"Enzo was a sweet and spunky Little Man with an enormous heart. We will never forget him, and the love he brought into our family. Special thanks to his Hoomans, Kathy and Steve, for being such great friends to Enzo for so many years, and for being an inspiration to the rest of us."

Maggie

"To our silliest snaggletooth goober, thank you for choosing us. Thank you for the unconditional love, snuggles, and countless adventures. Thank you for bringing us so much joy and laughter. We will love you forever." - Cynthia and Justin
