MAYNARD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Maynard            Best Guess for Breed:  Lab and terrier mix

Best Guess for Age:    7 months as of May 2024          SEX:  Male

Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):  28lbs as of 4/14

Gets Along With:  Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.

Currently Living at:   DC area foster home

Special Adoption Considerations: When Maynard arrived from the shelter, he was pretty reserved in the hustle and bustle of city life.  He has been making great strides in foster care! We think Maynard would do best  in a home that either has a resident dog or who can make sure Maynard has lots of opportunities to go on walks regularly with other dogs or visit dog parks and/or doggie daycare with other dogs to build confidence.

Maynard is Looking For:  Hiya! I'm Maynard! Me and my littermates, Milwaukee, Macon, and Mallory, have loved our time in the puppy pile, but we are each ready to pack our bags and find our very own forever home! I'm looking for a home that will let me play with toys and get my puppy zoomies out and give me snuggles in between playtimes. I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. Oh, and I should probably take a puppy obedience class or two so I can show you how smart I am. What do you say? Do you have room in your heart for me?

What My Foster Says About Me: Maynard is a sweet and silly boy who would fit right into any home. He is a curious pup who can take in new environments and sounds in stride. He lives in a DC condo and is perfectly fine with all the coming and goings of the neighbors— even more so when it overlaps with his potty breaks and he gets to say hi!   Maynard quickly becomes the mayor wherever he goes and loves to meet people of all ages. He also loves to play with other dogs. He has regular one-on-one play dates and does great at doggy daycare. Despite all his energy with his puppy friends, Maynard is actually pretty chill at home. He spends most of his time snoozing next to his foster while she works from home. He is also perfectly content to play by himself when he does get those intermittent bouts of zoomies. Maynard is excellent with house training and is a quick learner with obedience skills. Maynard can sit, stay, down, leave it, and shake— though we are building up those skills in high distraction environments. The latest skills he is practicing is to be content doing nothing in public and to heel between his foster’s legs on command. With more practice he’ll be the perfect companion for trips to farmers markets, breweries, and other outdoor activities. Maynard sleeps in his crate overnight and likes to sleep in, so long as he knows someone is in the room with him. He is still practicing feeling calm and content in his crate when left alone.  Maynard generally keeps a loose leash on walks so long as he gets to sniff all the new smells. He will definitely remind you to stop and smell the roses! He’s building up his stamina for longer walks and can now regularly walk a mile.

Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!
